Creative and design: half the route is mid-revision
A route being substantially rewritten while it is being delivered.
Creative and design carries eighteen recorded changes, and nine of those standards are in development, a notice period, or otherwise unsettled. Publishing Professional at Level 4, Creative Industries Production Technician at Level 3, Scenic Artist at Level 3 and Hair, Wigs, Make-up and Prosthetics Technician at Level 3 are all mid-revision with notice periods attached.
The most structurally significant change is journalism. The Level 5 Journalist standard has been retired and replaced by a Level 6 Journalist at £14,000 over 18 months and a new Level 5 Junior Journalist at £13,000 over 14 months, both approved in April 2026. That changes the progression ladder rather than simply updating a version.
Elsewhere, Interior Designer at Level 6 moved to version 2.0 in May 2026 and is awaiting an assessment organisation. Junior VFX Artist or Assistant Technical Director at Level 4 moved to 1.2, Furniture Restorer at Level 3 to 1.1 and Print Operative at Level 2 to 1.2.
What it changed from: many creative standards were written against production practices that have since been reshaped by streaming economics, virtual production and, more recently, generative tools.
What follows: the journalism restructure is the one to act on, because a retired standard cannot take new starts and the replacement sits at a different level with different entry expectations. For the nine in revision, treat curriculum plans as provisional and confirm the position at each intake rather than at the start of the academic year.
