Legal, finance and accounting: eleven standards move to version 2.0
The route hit hardest by the Level 7 age restriction is also the one rewriting the most standards.
Eleven standards on this route carry recorded changes, most of them moves to version 2.0 during 2026. Advanced Paralegal at Level 5 and Professional Taxation Technician at Level 4 both moved in July 2026. Barrister at Level 7 and Chartered Legal Executive Litigator and Advocate at Level 7 moved in May. Licensed Conveyancer or Licensed Probate Practitioner at Level 6 and Legal Technician at Level 4 moved in June. Internal Audit Technician at Level 4 moved to 2.0 in March.
What it changed from: these standards map onto professional qualification routes controlled by regulators and professional bodies, so version changes tend to arrive in clusters when those bodies update their own requirements.
The context that matters more than any individual version change is the Level 7 restriction. Since January 2026, Level 7 apprenticeships are funded only for apprentices aged 16 to 21, or 22 to 24 with an EHC plan or care experience. Barrister at Level 7 over 72 months and Chartered Legal Executive at Level 7 over 66 months are exactly the programmes that restriction removes for mid-career entrants — which was much of their volume.
What follows: a firm that used Level 7 apprenticeships to qualify existing paralegals has lost that funding route entirely. The Level 4 Legal Technician and Level 5 Advanced Paralegal standards become more important as a consequence, since they remain funded at any age. Expect demand to redistribute downward rather than disappear.
